Electroanalgesia For Tension Headache Pain
Electroanalgesia is an FDA-approved treatment that uses electrical stimulation to reduce pain caused by tension headaches. Electroanalgesia therapy reduces pain caused by tension headaches in several ways.
Electrical stimulation helps to relax the muscles that are causing the tension headache and also helps reduce inflammation in and increase blood flow into the affected area, which helps reduce pain.
Additionally, the electrical current used in electroanalgesia helps block pain signals sent to the brain while also releasing endorphins (which are essentially natural painkillers) to help reduce the intensity of tension headache pain.
Electroanalgesia therapy uses high-pulse currents to achieve these results, making it much more effective for long-term pain relief than TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) therapy, which uses low-pulse currents to achieve temporary pain relief.
Multiple sessions are needed for electroanalgesia therapy to be effective at providing long-term relief. It’s one reason many medical professionals prefer to prescribe painkillers or recommend surgery, because it isn’t as time-consuming as electroanalgesia. However, the more often you undergo electroanalgesia, the longer-lasting the pain relief is.
As such, electroanalgesia therapy is safer and more effective at treating tension headaches when done long-term. We recommend two sessions a week for 12 weeks to get the best results.
