At Neuragenex, we believe in taking a holistic approach to pain management. We not only treat gout using electroanalgesia and IV therapy to reduce symptoms, including chronic pain, but we also provide lifestyle counseling to help you prevent future flare-ups. Additionally, because we take a neurofunctional pain management approach to treatment, we avoid risky solutions.
For instance, we do not prescribe any pain medication. This is because pain medications are often opioid-based and potentially addictive. Not to mention that many drugs come with side effects.
Our approach also avoids the use of surgery and chiropractic adjustments, both of which can potentially cause physical complications (such as injuries or infections) and are often ineffective.
Electroanalgesia For Gout Pain
Electroanalgesia is a form of electric neuromodulation therapy that has been used to treat chronic pain for decades. It is an FDA-approved treatment that relieves pain by stimulating the nervous system to release natural pain-relieving chemicals in the brain, known as endorphins, and to block out the sensation of pain signals.
While electroanalgesia may sound similar to TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) therapy, it’s much more powerful and effective. This is because electroanalgesia uses high-pulse currents instead of the low-pulse currents delivered by TENS units.
As a result, electroanalgesia is much more effective at providing long-term pain relief from gout. In contrast, TENS therapy is only suitable for temporary relief.
It’s worth mentioning that despite being a proven treatment option for pain relief, electroanalgesia isn’t prescribed nearly as much as painkillers or surgical procedures. This is because electroanalgesia requires multiple sessions to ensure long-term results, whereas other solutions (which come with more inherent risks) are quick-fix solutions.
At Neuragenex, we treat our patients using electroanalgesia twice a week for 12 weeks total.
IV Therapy For Gout Pain
IV (intravenous) therapy is another type of treatment that we offer patients suffering from chronic gout pain with our electroanalgesia therapy.
IV therapy is an effective way to deliver nutrients and fluids into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. Because one of the primary symptoms of gout is inflammation, IV therapy can be effective since it can deliver fluids and electrolytes that help reduce inflammation.
To determine what nutrients and fluids will be most effective for treating gout pain, we will evaluate your medical history and bloodwork to suggest a personalized IV therapy regimen for you.
Lifestyle Counseling For Gout Pain
At Neuragenex, we believe that pain management should be holistic. We understand that managing chronic gout pain involves more than just treating the symptom, which is why we take a multifaceted approach to treatment that includes lifestyle counseling. We focus on helping patients develop lifestyle habits that prevent future flare-ups and chronic pain.
Our counseling may include nutrition plans, exercise regimens, and stress management techniques. We also provide guidance on eliminating triggers that can cause a gout attack to occur. For example, we may advise on avoiding certain foods that can trigger an attack or suggest lifestyle changes to reduce inflammation in the body.
